This year I'm committed to working smarter, as they say, but also harder. Following our hearts and doing what we love is the smartest way to work and working on kids books is at the top of my heart. Writing for travel and other publications is a great way to be a better writer for children's stories. Everything we do can compliment other things we do. Writing for kids is all about being conservative with words and it can really help in getting rid of filler words in other writing.
A great example of a simply and beautifully written story is Nobody Hugs a Cactus by Carter Goodrich. The illustrations are delightful and hilarious and every time I read it I can't stop laughing. Who wouldn't love a grouchy cactus who ends up being a good neighbor.
